FEMtorMatch: Pinay Speed FEMtoring Session

Saturday, Oct 28 from 3pm to 5pm

Marking FWN's 8th year of building the pipeline of next generation of Pinay leaders, Pinay Speed Femtoring is a learning event at which femtees / protégés can ask the Global FWN100™ Awardees (aka Femtors) the "everything-you've-always-wanted-to-know-but-didn't-know-whom-to-ask" questions.

For Femtees

Femtees will have the opportunity to interact with Femtors during the course of the session by moving to different topic tables every 15 minutes.  

Femtees / protégées will have the opportunity to interact with up to 3-5 Femtors during the course of the event.

ADVANCE SIGN-UP is required for Femtees so you will be able to indicate, in advance, the areas in which you would most like to give receive advice.

DROP-IN participants will NOT be allowed.

Femtee application is FREE if you are invited by a Femtor who is a FWN100™ Awardee. Your application is subject to approval.

What is Speed Femtoring?

SPEED FEMTORING is a networking event at which femtees / protégées can ask experienced professionals those "everything-you've-always-wanted-to-know-but-didn't-know-whom-to-ask" questions.

FEMtorMatch™ is the Filipina Women's Network's strategy for developing the next generation of Filipina leaders through local and global partnerships between female mentors, FEMtors™, and female mentees, FEMtees™. FEMtorMatch™ provides structured one-on-one mentoring that harnesses the power of the Internet to broaden and deepen the reach of traditional mentoring. Thus, both FEMtors™ and FEMtees™ can reside anywhere in the world.

Femtoring (aka mentoring) describes a developmental relationship between a femtor, who is a person with experience, skills and knowledge, and a protégée, who is less experienced or skilled in handling professional situations. This relationship may take the form of non-threatening training, coaching, modeling, supporting, discussing, and/or counseling, across time and work contexts.

Informal femtoring may emerge between professionals who spontaneously discover each other in unplanned and sometimes unexpected ways usually in casual settings.

Formal femtoring happens by design—an individual is assigned protégés or it is part of the supervisor/supervisee job responsibilities. Highly organized formal femtoring programs have program goals, schedules, training and evaluation.

There are obvious advantages and disadvantages to both informal and formal femtoring, such as the effectiveness of matching femtors and protégés, or in some cases in finding a sufficient number of femtors to match the number of protégés, and the success of being non-threatening within the context of the relationship.

Women, in particular, may experience difficulties with femtorship due to time constraints, finding an appropriate femtor in a male-dominated career field, and experiencing gender-based professional challenges due to sex role differences.

Modeled after speed dating, speed femtoring is a relatively new concept that focuses on quick-hit information, time-efficient networking and the methodical pursuit of a femtor. It addresses many of the disadvantages of both informal and formal mentoring for women. By simply providing a venue and structured method for participants to seek out their own femtoring relationships during a fast-paced event, speed femoring addresses [or solves] many disadvantages of formal femtoring programs.

For FWN with members nationwide, these disadvantages include high costs of program management and evaluation, and the potential lack of successfully matching femtor to protégée due to geographic location. A major advantage for this program is the natural affinity we all share -Filipina women in the global workplace.

Speed Femtoring also addresses a challenge for women to establish informal relationships by cutting through the initial stages of developing a professional relationship and jumping right into the crux of the issue at hand – is it a good match?
